Manage Power Pivot files in Dynamics NAV

Today’s posting is about using NAV to manage all your Power Pivot files. As you may know, Sharepoint and Power Pivot are a great combination: they allow to automate the data refresh, permissions may be managed in Sharepoint groups, and reports may be viewed in the browser with excel services. However, for companies that do not use Sharepoint managing Power Pivot files may become a hassle – especially when Power Pivot wins broader adaption and the number of files increases.

Power Pivot Refresh List

We created a small solution directly in Dynamics NAV that brings some structure and centralized management of Power Pivot files:

This overview is meant to be used by administrators to manage all Power Pivot files. Single files may be refreshed by using the Action “Refresh Single File”, all files may be refreshed in one batch and Excel-files may be directly opened from this list.

Accessing Power Pivot files directly from NAV’s user interface provides a lot of opportunities – e.g. imagine accessing your well-formatted Power Pivot based trial balance directly from the Role Center:
